Banjo Friday 23: The completed Yoppjo 3.0 (WOOT!)

Yep it is Friday again! Today finds me with a completed Yoppjo. Six strings of banjo goodness all wrapped up in maple, oak, wenge, and birch plywood.

It is strung with Martin classical guitar strings at the moment, but I also want to put steel strings on and see how it sounds. Maybe over the weekend … I guess next time I will have to figure a way to put both nylon AND steel and have a way to switch between them..oh man… Thats crazy… Crazy talk.. so how come I just had three different ideas about how to make it work?

ack.

    That’s a masterpiece Yoppy. The fanned frets are amazing but they make my eyes go funny – you know, when you see a picture hanging crooked and you have a subconscious urge to straighten it…
    I’m sure there will be a Yoppy museum one day when we’re long gone and people will flock to see your stuff!

    Any reason for …
    Any reason for slanting the lower frets that way?

  8. YoppyKyabetsu says:

    @smokindog The neck …
    @smokindog The neck has fanned frets, the first string is an inch shorter than the last string. As the frets go up the neck they slant more and more until you get to the bridge. The idea is that the frets will follow your hands natural tendency to lean in as you go up the neck..
