Building my carbon-fiber kayak: Gluing the forms

Sorry for the flickery video.

So, after designing a kayak using the free software “Kayak Foundry”
(you can get it from here:

http://www.blueheronkayaks.com/kayak/index.html

under “software”),
I took the forms output to a press house, where they were printed on A1 paper. The forms are basically cross-sections of the kayak, numbered from bow (front) to the stern (back), in 20 cm intervals.

In this video I’m gluing the prints to a 4mm birch plywood using a contact glue spray to avoid folds, air-bubbles and absorption of glue by the paper.

Later I will cut the forms using a jigsaw.

I know that feeling! Hope you get it done! Thinking about doing this myself but I’ll start with a few smaller projects first.

Way too slowly, I’m still working on the master form while simultaneously working on my Master’s thesis and working full time.

I was just thinking of uploading another video showing the progress so far and explaining the different difficulties.

    I’ll get there eventually.
