How do i split plywood/laminated wood?

Posted by admin on March 10th, 2010 and filed under birch plywood | 3 Comments »

I recently bought a 4′x8′ sheet of 1/2" baltic birch plywood to make some parts. I need a 1/4" sheet and 1/8" sheet of baltic birch plywood to make the rest o the parts. I will have enough scrap wood from the 4×8 1/2" sheet to make the other parts for the project. I am asking if and how can I split the rest of the plywood in order to make the parts. (I really don’t want to buy more sheets of baltic birch because it is expensive)

Thank you for your time.

Go to Freecycle.com for your city and post a request for some decent scrap pieces of 1/4" baltic birch plywood.

You will have trouble on this one unless the small pieces you need can be run on a table saw and the height will make it possible to rip it down.

I can’t honestly think of any answers. Plywood isn’t designed to be ripped apart, and the only time I’ve ever seen it done so is when it’s been left out in the weather where it’s warped itself apart, or when it cracks from misuse.

So, I don’t think it’s possible, sadly enough.
