I am trying to make a 2′ x 4′ ramp for my utility trailer out of plywood. Weight is a concern for me but I think this piece will be fine.

2′ will be wide enough to push my bike or for the use of a dolly for other stuff. 4′ will be long enough for a comfortable angle of ascent.

This ramp will also act as the back gate to the trailer when turned over.

I just need to know if a 3/4 inch plywood (maybe birch) will be strong enough to handle driving up my motorcycle weighting approximately 400-450 lbs.

thanks

Doubt it, but Home Depot or Lowes will have 48" long pieces of 1" angle iron that you can drill and screw on the 48" edges of your plywood that should suffice. The 400 pounds of the motorcycle will be on one edge and your walking up the motorcycle on the other edge will be about 600 pounds up the ramp. If you ride instead of walk, the bike+you will be on the center of the ramp and I would add another piece of iron up the center.

Maple and Poplar are both two potential wood types you can use. They aren’t necessarily the best for outdoor environments but they are similar in color and grain pattern.

This is for a GCSE project, and i need to bend a 9mm thick piece of birch plywood for the corner of a table. What i need to know is, is it possible to bend this 9mm thick piece of the birch plywood so that it stays in this position, but without using steam methods etc, general machinery you’d find in a school. Thanks in advance…
Also, i’d like to know in detail how I would go about doing it, i have already heard about a saw kerf method, but i need a bit more detail as to how to do it.

The only way I can think of, without using moisture(which would probably de-laminate the plywood) is to make a series of relief cuts on the back side, maybe 6-7mm deep. Then the remaining board could bend around a corner, still looking complete from the good side.

Cool. I plan on getting a piece of 1/4 in. Thick plywood. 4×8. What are the dimensions I need to build the tank for and do I need more than one piece? By dimensions I mean the bottom: 4×2 or whatever. Could you also put the L for length and W for width?

Yup, Birch is fine for them. Just avoid the pines and cedars. Make sure you have ventalation on the top, as they don’t enjoy it humid

I recently decided to try and make a longboard because I didn’t have the money to go buy one. I glued 2 1/4 pieces of birch plywood together and iv found that it doesn’t nearly support my 180 lb body. I have a sheet of fiberglass but I wanted to test the board first to see if i even needed it, but it seems like that wouldn’t strengthen it enough. Would it? What should I do?

Birch is not as strong as maple, but is lighter and does provide more flex, so you would need more plies. Fiberglass will provide a little strengthen, but I do not feel that one sheet will not be enough.

I was watching HGTV and they laid 1/2 inch birch plywood in 2ft x 2ft squares and laid the grain off the wood in alternating directions. I think this would be a really cool flooring concept but I don’t know how I would adhere the flooring to my sub-flooring. I have standard wood sheets for my sub-flooring no concrete. Also, what type of sealant would you use over top the birch??? Thanks for your help in advance!!

Well, some kind of wood adhesive, either the kind that comes in a cauling gun tube, or else some mastic you could trowel on. Are you going to sand it first? I would think it should be sanded, of course, real flooring installers would sand it using big drum sanders. You’ll have to get flooring finish ideas from others, I always contract that part out (the sanding, too). That stuff always smells toxic for the good stuff, and I don’t want to be around it.
