Is CDX plywood the same as sheathing?


Sheathing refers to exterior cladding (roofs, walls, etc.)

CDX is a specific grade/type of plywood that is most often used for sheathing.

    Yes…the ‘x’ denotes ‘exterior’ for side or roof of house, etc.

    yes, as is OSB, ACX, CCX PTS, they just have different thicknesses and uses. CDX and OSB can be used for roofing because of the exterior glue used in the product. CCX PTS is used for the under part of the overhangs on patios and such, it has a smooth side which any knots or voids are Plugged,and Touched Sanded for smoothness. ACX is similar the CCX but a little more expensive.

    Yes it’s often used as sheathing. CD is the grade one side is C the other D… X means its for exterior use. In FL 1/2 inch CDX often used as roof and wall sheathing.
