I need help picking out the material for my siding and soffit. I would like to use cdx plywood. I am painting so the grain does not matter. I will be doing board and batten with plywood and 2×4. What I need help with is which size plywood i should use. I would like to get the same size thickness for both soffit and siding. I already have 1/2" OSB all over the house for the siding to attach to so 3/8" plywood would probably be ok but what about the soffit. the plywood would just be nailed directly to the rafters with no other support. The rafters are 2 ft on center. is 3/8" plywood ok for that or would that be to flimsy. the 3/8" plywood for 240 sheets (what i need) is about 1k cheaper than the 1/2". but i don’t want to waste my money on 3/8" if a couple years from now my soffiting around my porch is going to start sagging and looking like crap. but on the other hand i could also really use 1k for for other things on my house. this is new construction by the way. I tried googling for st
i am a construction worker and have never used more then 3/8 for soffit, but i guess it would depend how big the overhang is if it is 1-2ft i think 3/8 is good if it gets bigger then that it may require thicker plywood or some sort of backing to prevent it from sagging

Sounds like this should be fine as long as your roof is properly flashed and you’re not getting any water on it. If you can edge nail all the way around, I wouldn’t worry at all.

We have 3/8" plywood for our soffits. The house is 12 years old and there has been no problem.

since you have 1/2" OSB as walls on already, you should be OK with a 3/8 inch siding, and as long as your soffits stay relatively dry they should be OK at 3/8 inch…
Unless there are other houses in your area with plywood siding i would consider other options, although you could upgrade later on.
I would recommend soffit vents and a ridge vent if you have an attic. You really may want to pal up with an experienced builder if you need to ask here for such basic stuff for such a big project as a house.

3/8 rough saw looks nice. I think its a B/C, I used it on my house, I went with the rough face because it looks so nice when you paint it and it hides all of the flaws….. Or skip all of the BS and get some track, aluminum soffit and facia, Its hard to beat it, easy to clean and never has to be painted and goes up just as fast as fighting with wood and trim!

I generally use 1/4" plywood as that is used to be standard in that it is light. If you already have the 3/8" go ahead and use it. If you are going to buy it buy which ever is cheapest between the 1/4" and the 3/8" ply.
