marine plywood uses special glues. if you soak the plywood in question in water it will start to fall apart more quickly if it is not marine.

If it’s new plywood you’re wanting to BUY any reputable merchant who handles plywood will be happy to show you which is which. If it’s old plywood you’re wanting to salvage and reuse, you need to know whether it came from an INSIDE application or an OUTSIDE application. If you have no way of knowing, you’ll have to examine carefully for any signs of separation of the plys, which would indicate a weakness to exposure to dampness or water. Otherwise, follow the advice already given and subject a small sample of the plywood to water. You’ll readily find out your answer. Wherever you install it, you should paint it at least with a prime coat, and then a finish coat if on the outside.
