The wood I used was plywood and some solid pine wood. With glass doors. I use water based polyurethane to seal the wood and let it air dry over 2 weeks or until the smell of the paint is gone.

I use a roll on brush for the paint. So, there not a really thick coats. Yes, it is a water based polyurethane and no, I don’t sand it down between coats. I wait over an hour before adding another coat. I make sure to coat the inside 4 times to get a good seal and the outside of the tank 3 times. I do use both types of wood ply and solid.
