Spring Lake Iron & Steel Charles Wesley Works Open Grid Framing

Learn how “Open Grid” construction for a Model Rail Road is done.
Sorry about the “Repeated ” Words. They are a “Computer Glitch”. The intro is softer at first, then gets louder from my digital camera. Open grid has been around for years. It uses light weight 1X2 or 1X4 furring strips which make up the “bench work” frame supporting the Model Railroad and its scenery. It also allows the use of “Risers” to make hills and mountain grades, plus lake and river beds. Flat plywood sheets do not allow you to do this and likely heavier.
SLI&S is a modular layout built on the open grid construction method. There are actually two modules. One is the basic frame module with the legs. The other is the top module which fits and is bolted to the basic frame. On this will be 2×7 foot plywood sections to be glued & screwed to the frame work. On these plywood boards will be the Blast Furnace Dept, Coke & Bi product dept, Conversion Dept and the blooming & rolling departments and other features glued permanently to the plywood. I hope you will find this informative.
