By building your own homemade solar panels, you can now easily take advantage of free solar energy and lower your electricity bills. This is particularly useful for homeowners in these difficult economic times. Best thing is, the technology to build and install homemade solar panels is now within easy reach of the average consumer.

If you appreciate the occasional DIY project, then this one is perfect for you. With a proper set of tools and the right materials like plywood, glass sheets, and photovoltaic cells, you will be able to start building your own solar energy panels. You probably already have most of the necessary tools at home, and the other materials are easily available in stores or on the Internet.

Where to Install your Homemade Solar Panels

The rooftop is generally the best place to install solar energy panels, as this is the area that usually receives the most direct sunlight. If this is not the case, the panels can also be placed in the backyard, in a spot where the sunlight is not obstructed.

Homemade solar panels are easy to install as long as you have an instructional guide handy. You will find a number of affordable resources available on the Internet that you can use.

Taking it One Step at a Time

The best way to start your project would be to first build a small solar panel. This way, you can familiarize yourself with the process of building the panels more easily. Once you have completed the first panel, you can then start building more until you reach the number required for your home. If you wish, you can even build enough solar panels to provide for all of your home energy needs, making your home completely independent of the regular power grid!

Solar energy panels also require very little effort to maintain, making this a favorable DIY project for many homeowners. If you are willing to put in the effort to make this DIY project work, you will find that building homemade solar panels will save you large amounts of money on your electricity bills.

Want to build your own homemade solar panels but don’t know where to start?

Fret not! Many people just like you have successfully built these on their own to DRASTICALLY cut their monthly electricity consumption. They are already shaving $1000s off their energy bills every year. If you need STEP-BY-STEP guidance in installing one, I have reviewed the Best Online Guides on Homemade Solar Panels for your convenience. These highly recommended guides provide EASY-TO-FOLLOW instructions that will help you save money in no time.

Cut your sheet of plywood to fit the dimensions needed for your array of solar cells.

For an array of 36 solar cells of 3 inch by 6 inch mono-crystalline,

accounting for room in between the cells,

you will need a plywood sheet of 45 inches by 24 ¼ inches by 3/8 inch thick.

Please note that you must use cells of the same size–don’t mix sizes on the same panel.

Using the wood glue and wood screws, mount the 4 strips of ¾ inch by ¾ inch wood along the outer edges of the plywood.

This will provide a shallow panel box for the solar cells.

Drill holes in the bottom rail of the ¾ inch strip for ventilation,

pressure equalization, and to allow moisture to escape.

Holes must be in the bottom rail only.

Run a strip of vent tape over the holes to prevent dust and bugs from entering the panel.

Cut the peg-board to fit within the panel box.

Cut plexiglass to the same dimension as your sheet of plywood.

The plexiglass should rest on top of your ¾-inch railing.

The plexiglass should NOT lay inside of the railing.

For now, set the plexiglass aside for later use.

It will be attached after the solar cells have been constructed.

Paint your panel box and peg-board with exterior latex paint.
This will aid in protection from outdoor weather.

Let paint dry for 24 hours.
Assembling the solar cells

Located at 223 Crenshaw Way in the “Legends” Golf community of Warmans north end. This Rocy built home offers the standards that are surpassed by no other-the construction you don’t see such as the T&G plywood flooring and the Plywood roof Sheeting, the acrylic stucco exterior repels water stains and allows for longevity in the darker stucco colors, engineered truss floor systems allows for a full 9′ ceilings in the lower levels and provides a very firm solid floor-so when quality really matters, its time to check out a Rocy built home. This particular design is one that has the kitchen, 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms on the 2nd or top level while the lower level is on grade allowing for a most inviting basement living area due to the abundance of natural light and the south facing rear yard allows for the sun to beam into the grade level family room. The 2nd level or the top floor offers a gas fireplace with tile accents in the living room with laminate flooring as well as in the 2 top floor bedrooms while the bathrooms and the kitchen feature ceramic tile flooring. Kitchen offers Alder Cinnamon color cabinets with door off the nook area to a 2 tiered deck with Aluminum & glass rail. Garage is insulated and dry-walled, large walk-in closet off master bedroom backs green space, energy efficient furnace and water heater. The tower is 36′ high. The blades start spinning from 0 rpm to somewhere near 500 rpm. Although they appear in the video to slow down due to the frame rate, they become invisible to the naked eye. You can read the whole project at http://www.mindchallenger.com/wind
