Then add sprayed-on water, thermal, a/o fire resistive/protective coatings and lighter-weight veneers with fewer nailing/fastening schedules?
I am looking to replace the plywood with a new method of frame reinforcing that uses steel strapping bands to stiffen, strengthen, and resist movements of the framing. I will not be placing plywood or drywall on this frame.

Yes but it would still be drywall. Today walls are usually made of sheetrock, before that product was introduced a plastering crew would nail thin boards called laths to the studs and cover those with plaster. Your idea is basically the same concept.

I have done for plywood, but I wouldn’t do it for drywall because wood is appropriate for tension and compression but dry wall is not, I think to use it is kind of risky.
